british gas fraud?

hi sorry for another post .. i was checking my credit file and noticed a default from british gas . so i contacted them as i only lived there 8 weeks and were trying to charge me 9 months worth .but i never set this account up i moved in on 01/10/11 and they have a start date of 7/9/11 , i wasn't even near the area then i was working in the west of scotland live in . i can only think it was the landlord . trying to get me to pay the previous months . i spoke to britsh gas yesterday and they said they would remove the defaults and send out a bill for 8 weeks . and get it back from debt collector . so today i called back to say about the start date is wrong to add that to my dispute , and i asked for a copy of the agreement in which he just blanked me . i asked him who set the account up and he went away and came back with I'm sending this to bg fraud police or something . so will they be able to find i didn't set this account up and get my previous address from benefits office and that? also i thought my bills where included in the rent . as it was short term , what happens now? will i still be held repsponible for a account i never set up . i don't mind paying the 8 weeks i was there i would have paid it then if i was informed . i have told brattish gas i will pay as soon as they bill me for what i owe . thanks in advance for reading and i hope this makes sense . thanks

If British Gas is investigating why don't you just wait to see what they come back with.
Whatever they do say, ask them to put it in writing so that if you do have problems with your previous landlord having set up an a/c that he shouldn't have, you'll have some proof in order to take it further.
Did you have a written tenancy agreement? It would be unusual for the cost of services to be included in rent.0 -

no its been over 5years since i lived there so no agreement as i binned it . as i have moved 3 times since then, i did call the council for the agreement that i moved in to in the 2012 and they can't get a hold of it but game me my moving in dates . and from dec till i got my council house i stayed with my dad because i was heavily pregnant with my disabled son . so after goggling for a few hours i think I'm !!!!!!ed and might have to just pay all the £800 so they will just remove the default .0

id like to know that aswell as how they got my date of birth . the surname is wrong on the account as there is to many letters . the only thing i can think of is letters going there after i left from the hospital or it was on my agreement . i asked them also who set the account up as id like a copy of the agreement from them0

An issue here is how did BG find out sufficient information about you to put you on the CRA blacklist?
All they would need is a name and address. If the account has been opened fraudulently then that's not the fault of the company providing the service. If this is proven to be fraudulent it's a very easy correction to the credit file.
I know you think all the energy companies are evil for reporting bad debts but if I had the ability to report customers who constantly paid late or avoided paying at all I one of my previous businesses I would have done it, it may have made a difference. You won't agree of course, but that doesn't make me wrong anymore than it makes you right0 -
They won't remove the default if you pay it, it'll just be marked as settled and continue to trash your record until 6 years from the date of the default. British Gas are likely to see paying it as admitting the debt is yours and then you'll be stuck with the default and without £800.
The only way to remove it is to follow through until they see it for the error/fraud it is.0
