No claims discount - New car
I currently have insurance on a Renault Megane which runs until 13th March 2016, I've received a renewal notice by email stating I have 3 years NCB.
My question is does the 3 years NCB become active as of now, or do I need to wait for the 13th March?
I have bought a new car and got quotes based on 3 years, but I don't want to buy my insurance unless its with the 3 years NCB. As the same companies are quoting significantly more if I only have 2 years NCB.
Appreciate your help.

The 3 years is "provisional"
ie. Should you make a claim between now and your policy end date then the NCD will be reduced.
You need to wait till you have successfully reached the renewal date before you can use the NCD on another policy.
If you now own 2 cars, then unless you insure them both, you need to SORN one of them, and put the other one on your current policy0 -
As above you will have 3 years on the expiry date if you make no claim between now and then.
If you have another car to insure then you have zero no claims if the current car/policy is insured using the no claims you have built up.
Any vehicle not insured needs to be kept on private land and you need to SORN it which cancels the tax. This may make it difficult to sell.
If you change vehicles now on the current policy the admin fee maybe more than you expected.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
You could see if the existing insurer will swap the vehicles. I was with Tesco and they changed from one car to another with 2 months left - it cost me £1.50 a month on extra premium plus £25 admin fee, so £28 extra. Unfortunately, the renewal quote went up by 90%, so I'm now with Aviva. If you swap, then it might be cheaper than getting a new policy on the new car with just 2 yrs NCB, but if you've still got 2 cars, then #3 tells you all you need to know.0
