hybrid HDD : defrag or not defrag?

Options
I read that SSD hard drives should never be defragmented.
But what about hybrids? Do you defragment them or not?

    It's not that simple.

Short answer.... just let windows do its thing.

I don't even know why manual drive maintenance is a thing these days, the process has been automated for at least a decade in the major operating systems.

With my previous systems/laptops (on XP), I always defragmented my Hard Drive manually, I didn't know it supposed to be automatic.
And if it was, why the defragmenter was showing that my files were all over the place every time I was defragmenting? I was doing it about every two months, when my system was slowing down, so if it was done automatically why was it that bad? Maybe it was different on XP? How do you check whether it's on automatic or not, and the state of the HDD?

That's why I am trying to find out for sure, as it seems that opinions differ on the subject.

XP didn't defragment disks automatically in the background. Windows7 onwards does if the disks are suitable. Not sure about Vista.

That's alright then, I'll stop wondering about this.
It's a question I always had in mind, but what pushed me to look into it a bit more is that my browsing with chrome or firefox was slow, and my wireless was disconnecting without reasons, until I restart the lappy or my router, then my internet connection was back.
My suspicions was that Avast was the culprit, it worked fine until I upgraded something on Avast, then my browsing got slow. As I only had one month before I needed to register again, I uninstalled Avast and downloaded Avira an hour ago, and it seem to be back to normal.
I did uninstall Driver Finder too, it was bugging me for an update of it.
I have never use the thing, and it did appear when I downloaded Avast, wasn't there with AVG.

Hopefully the drive is intelligent enough only to allow defrag on the disk part rather than the SSD.
