defaults

Options
hi everyone looking for advice. regarding defaults from 2011 from british gas for £60 saw that on my file ,called british gas today about and they have me there till june 2012 but i moved out in dec 11 . got a council house then . the girl on the phone says they will clear the defaults that don't belong to me , so the 8 weeks i was in the flat was paid , it was a short term lease . and they will generate a new bill for me to pay for the time i was there if there is any outstanding balance . . so does this mean they will wipe the default next time they update? and they have recalled it from debt collector .she says that will take a few days. so I'm hooping it will removed soon . also have a three mobile from 2015 , that i wasn't notified about . but called them today to get that sorted . so what actually happens? will they close that old bill remove default and give me a chance to pay if there is any outstanding balance?

    Hi there,

May need a bit more information about the Three mobile to answer that query - when did the contract end, did you cancel it correctly, was you up to date when it ended or was money still owing?

As far as British Gas is concerned, you are right to get the bill recalculated for the relevant period. Once the bill has been confirmed to you, you can negotiate the repayment of anything outstanding (if applicable). If any money is owing, and has been since 2011 then the default is likely to stay on your file (although you can ask them to remove it - it is unlikely). If the recalculation confirms nothing is owing then you could ask British Gas to remove the default as it is incorrect data. If they refuse then take it up to the Energy Ombudsman and the Information Commissioner.

  • thank you for replying . the 3 default i sorted today . it was only for £42 in which i paid today . i didn't even get any letters about it , as i thought i had canceled it , but it hadn't been , so they added a default . so it should show up now as settled .
