Royal Mail Proof of Posting

I posted a couple of ebay items this morning at a post office I dont usually use and was told the following: 'We've had a memo saying that Royal Mail are introducing a new rule that they will not compensate claims for missing ebay items so proof of postings are a waste of time - you need to pay an extra £1.10 for recorded tracking etc etc'. I asked for the proof of postings anyway and have checked the royal mail website and there is nothing of the sort on there. Hmm..

post office in a shop? , self employed? , happens often , mine insists that there is no proof of posting on second class and insists on 1st class, I often post from elsewhere now.
PS , are the post office staff psychic ? can they tell a ebay item from a parcel being sent to granny?Save a Rachael

I had one post office tell me you can only get a proof of posting "if you spend over £1 on the postage."Warning: any unnecessary disclaimers appearing under my posts do not bear any connection with reality, either intended, accidental or otherwise. Your statutory rights are not affected.0

I have been there occasionally in the past and they never said this.0

self employed staff , ie: PO in shops seem to be on a commission basis , but selective with the selling , only items that increase the daily turnover , ie: 1st class instead of second etc etcSave a Rachael

They get really !!!!ed off with me when I take all my franked mail in and ask for all my pre-paid sign for stuff to be done, but they were equally shirty when I used to take it to the Royal Mail depot so what can you do?self employed staff , ie: PO in shops seem to be on a commission basisWarning: any unnecessary disclaimers appearing under my posts do not bear any connection with reality, either intended, accidental or otherwise. I'm a regular ebay seller too and have been to numerous different post offices (including in small independent shops) needing proof of postage for up to 10+ items sometimes and have never come across this 'memo' or been asked to pay extra, though it has irritated the staff! I would try to speak to someone at Royal Mail and report the store.0
