Yes you are a cynic - what you feel is over generous was just due to the same process that they followed for your KA.
Valuing cars is not an exact science so theres alway going to a be a bit of +/-.
Its funny because if the insurance company under value in your view, then they're dishonest, however if they over value in your view, then they're doing it to avoid a whiplash claim? So damned if they do and damned if they dont?
Or maybe, its like what everyone else thinks - that its not a perfect system, however the insurance companies are open to a bit of reasoned negotiation if you think the price is wrong?
as I said two entirely different cases, one a comprehensive claim the other a third party, don't know why you are insisting they are the same
In my case there was no reasoned negotiation, the price they offered at first and second offer were both made with no examination of condition of car, of service history etc etc and their 3rd response was if you don't like it go to ombudsman....As an ex motor trader, and having looked at the prices out there for '04 Kas, it was a fair price at £600.
You pushed back on that based on the rust free status and condition of the Ka in question and they upped their offer a bit to reflect that.
I'm really not seeing an issue here. Genuinely - if that is "dishonest" in your books and causes you so much bitterness, you're in for a long hard life.
you seem to be missing this ain't my thread, nor was it my Ka
not bitter just aware.
As I said have you ever heard a Ins. Co. come back and say
"hey we have just found your car was in much better condition then we thought and had full service history, we need to give you an extra £500" if not sounds very much like theft by finding to me...0 -
Motorguy, quite evidently, you'll defend the insurance companies no matter what they do.0

Stoke, you missed motorguy's post above, where he's complaining about an insurance company on another issue?
How closely do you think they have inspected your written off, 12 year old, high spec Ka? I think we've established they offered an average price (you don't mention what mileage it has as far as I could see) - do you think this guy is going to thoroughly check this written off car for rust around the fuel cap?
I'm quite sure people like your GF do accept the 1st offer. That's what sites like this are for. Bottom line, if you write off your car, you need to check how much it'll cost to replace. Same car, same spec, same condition, same mileage. You did that better than your GF or the insurance comp - well done. Now spend the money on a different car!0 -
Great point, I agree that would be absolutely straight. No one pays insurance on the basis of "getting a sale of their car to webuyanywreck.com"
If insurance companies want to "honestly" treat their customers fairly they should maintain a network of trusted car dealers to simply drop an email to requesting a comparable replacement and payout on that basis with an option to buy that replacement.
I know a couple of insurers have now started doing this and I shall be taking my renewal to one of them.
I appreciate where you are coming from, but companies that do not want to get the type of setup you describe may still be trying to offer fair value, so they are not necessarily dishonest.0 -

Antagonistic new poster has found another antagonistic new poster to suddenly back them up.
That last time that happened they were both PPRd fairly soon as being a poster with multiple names.0
