Incorrect default removed from Barclays.

Options
Hi,

Thank you in advance for your advice.

I opened a Barclays current account back in February 2012 with the intention to swap all my incomings & direct debits etc onto it. Long story short, it never happened & I stayed with my current bank. I moved house shortly after this & never changed the details with Barclays. Safe to say I'd just forgotten about it.

I'd signed up for a packaged bank account with a cost of £7 a month but never used it, never even accessed the online banking.

It was only until a couple of years later that I checked my credit file to see a default for £71 had been placed on my credit file (failed loan/credit card applications made me check it) from Barclays for the current account...I'm guessing 10 months worth of packaged bank account fees.

As this was the only red mark against my credit file, I wrote them a letter a month or so ago offering to settle the debt. They sent me a reply accepting my offer to settle the debt & to call their collections. I called them & the guy I spoke to said I had incorrectly been given a default as they can't default an account made solely up of charges. He processed a complaint & the complaint has been completed by the data exceptions team & it is getting removed as we speak.

Do I have any grounds to claim anything as I've had to settle for higher interest loans/credit cards over the last few years? I've even got a Barclaycard now at a higher interest rate so I can prove it's happened.

Thanks again in advance!

only if you can prove a direct cause. even then, if you neglected to check your credit report to see why you were getting bad rates then youre unlikely to get much or anything. may as well complain to BC though to see if they will offer anything
Still rolling rolling rolling...... :) <
