MSE Collective Switch - Existing Supplier "retention" calls?

  • Anyway, to return to the question in my original post!

So, has anyone else had the type of call that I got this morning from SP, or from any other supplier from which you are in the middle of switching away?

A lot of suppliers will e- mail to tell you that a switch is going through and they will 'suggest' that you are making a mistake. I have never had one tell me that they could offer me a better deal than I will be getting with my new switch. On my last switch, my supplier contacted me 3 weeks after the actually switching date just to tell me that it could take up to 12 weeks for my gas (IGT) switch to go through. I just ignore these e-mails.

    Where are you located?

I'm in South Wales - the actual calculated difference between the MSE BG deal and the best SP deal available to me (fix til April 2017) is over £200 when I use the spreadsheet
    so more like 19%

To go back to the original question - the only time I've been contacted re retention after I've started a switch, was by a SWALEC doorknocker who had been sent out (so he said) to prevent people making a "mistake" by switching - don't think that they are allowed to do that anymore !!
All the other switches (and there have been many ) have triggered variations on "sorry you are leaving,if you change your mind please phone us on xxxxxx"

Final update is that ( as you probably guessed!):
    - No emailed "new deal" ever came
    - Few days after the pone call, I got the "sorry you are leaving" letter
    - No further contact from SP

So, that phone call was a bit like the "door knocker" mentioned above = just a try-on.

They did launch a version 2 of their April 2017.

There seems to be a lot of regional variation on some tariffs, and thus which will be the best in an area.

Thread drift I know but a couple of years ago I switched from Edf. I got a call from their redemptions team and got some childish satisfaction from telling them that I would be very interested in what they had to say but that I would have to put them on hold for 45 mins whilst playing them crap music before I could talk to them. When asked why I informed them that this is what happened every time I phoned them to sort out all the problems their (then) new charging system had caused, and this was the main reason I was changing. They didn't seem too impressed.

Scottish Power used to provide my old house, when I moved I filled in their "I'm moving" online form only to receive a phonecall asking if I would reconsider switching away. The bloke on the phone was highly apologetic when I pointed out that I wasn't switching, I was closing my account because I was moving out.

This was just the beginning of Scottish Powers utter incompetance, turns out they were the existing provider for my new house so I naively thought it would be a breeze to continue with them as I already had an online account with them. It was anything but (I could rant for hours about the shambolic service I received) and I did switch away 6 weeks after moving house. The retention team called me three times before they finally got the message I would rather shave my eyeballs than have any dealings with Scottish Power ever again.
