So I'm thinking that economy 7 would make sense for us in the winter but not for the rest of the year.

What are the odds of being able to get a non-smart economy 7 meter fitted and then switch between E7 and non-E7 tariffs on a seasonal basis....

I have an Economy 7 meter set up.

Until a couple of days ago I was with Scottish Power on a fixed tariff ending this month.

I have moved to BG on the MSE collective switch. With BG and some other companies(e.g Eon, OVO) they will allow you to switch tariffs between E7 and a normal one-rate 24/7 tariff; in the latter case they simply add the readings from both meters and treat as a single total. e.g 1,000kWh peak and 500kWh off-peak is treated as 1,500kWh on a non E7 tariff.

I would add that on this BG tariff for the Midlands the cost is 8.79p/kWh and 18.09p Daily Standing Charge - the cheapest I have seen for years.

We have an iBoost saving the stairs carpet since 1st Sept 14, saving 2200 so far(Year 1 savings £60 - 1800kwh gas + excess Elec used for pump and . 4 year payback).

Just joined the mse collective switch too from Ovo energy, who kindly fitted Smart Meters in Apr15. They do measure out exported Solar Energy but EDF pay me on the 50% basis still.
When I asked Ovo for the cost of E7, the price was similar to our current fixed rate and half at night. I calculated a total saving of around £14 per annum without making any changes. Preparation for an EV!!! (More talk than anything else)

As we had Smart Meters Ovo said they would have been able to switch me to Economy 7 (E7) and back as and when required... as required by someone above.

Switching from Ovo Energy to British Gas today... It seems the Smart Meters have been taken over by BG and the IHD received 2 messages The tariff info is blank for now awaiting BG numbers. The EST Bill info zero as expected.
3.6kwp Solar PV, 3000L Rainwater Harvesting tank for washing machine and flush, upgraded double glazing A+ E-glass, Cavity Wall and max loft insulation. Solar iBoost stores excess Solar Energy as Hot water. Smart meters by OvoEnergy. Elec/gas £50, water £19. :D 4 bed 5 people.
