The police?? Seriously?? What do you think the police would do?? Arrest the hospital staff??
Thankfully the OP has been given some far more sensible advice than this.
I have no suggestions, but I hope that something is done soon to improve the treatment given to the patient.0 -
PS You could also try asking the secretary of the consultant to speak to the doctors on call in the specialty.Life is mainly froth and bubble

I'd contact the safeguarding team. You might not be staff, but you do know, thanks to your job, what is going wrong with your FIL's care. It'd be a brave safeguarding team to say "We can't do anything as you are not staff"0

There's no back-covering bureaucracy like an NHS back-covering bureaucracy.
In addition to the suggestions so far...
Pay a medical malpractice lawyer to draft a letter, perhaps another option if the first round tactics don't work. Just another option. MP would be another. A couple of charities have advice lines that might be able to provide some ideas.
Given the seriousness of the situation, I would encourage you to visit in person, ASAP, with a couple of members of the family. Discuss his care with the doctor in charge. Take written notes of the conversation.
There might be an explanation for all this. But it does sound like a mistake is a distinct possibility.0 -
This is exactly what you need to do immediately. Ask PALS to let you know who is the Adult Safeguarding Lead in the hospital and ask to speak to them immediately. They will not want to delay looking into this, or if they are, there is some very serious concerns with the hospital and I would raise this up with CQC.I'd contact the safeguarding team0 -
S@d visiting hours !! I wouldn't leave that ward until I was able to speak to the doctor and agree a care plan that you are happy with, and importantly that you can monitor it's being adhered to.0

Very stongly worded Letter to the consultant in charge and copy the Chief Exec.
AS a nurse make sure you have access to the charts and notes when visiting so you can pull them(regular staff) up when there.
If able FIL can give concent.0 -

It didn't do Kane Gorny any good, did it.0 -
Twice we have asked to speak to the doctors dealing with relatives and this has been arranged without a problem.
It did mean taking time off work to go in to the hospital during the day to fit in with the doctors but that was a small price to pay.0
