British gas objection

Hi there first time here so I'm sorry if I make any mistakes. :p

I applied to join ovo on the 30/01/16 everything was going fine until I received an email saying the following "We’re in the middle of switching your gas supply over to OVO Energy, but your current supplier has raised an objection to the switch.
Until this objection has been resolved, we can’t take on your supply – to resolve it, please contact your current supplier."
Now I am on pay as you go meters I'm wondering why British gas might of done this as far as I'm aware I'm now in debt with them as I only moved in to the new property on the 29/01/16 and got new meters installed.

Thanks for any help you can give me

You might be doing it too quickly. The meters may not have registered on the system for a few days after they were installed.

Did you ever set up an account with BG ? When you moved in ,you were in a deemed contract with them.

You dont have to say " as far as I m aware " about debts, just check the meters. Electric meter debt is on screen S , gas meter is on screen 27. You need card and key in place to able to see these screens. Also the first screens will show any standing charge debts.
If you move to Ovo and use their smart prepayment meters Ovo may make it difficult to switch in the future if ever you get the feeling you are paying through the nose and want to get credit meters. Most suppliers can t accept the Liberty Secure meters except Utilita.
Ofgem rules say you can move supplier with up to £500 debt per meter so the debt must be pretty high for them to object.
