SeanG79, your responses have been invaluable. I went the the dealer and spoke to someone other than the salesperson and explained the situation and said I could not sign the financial paperwork as I could not abide by its terms.
The dealer said that as a responsible lender they have to do affordability checks which would have failed if I didn't tick the right box.
They gave me a refund which I didn't expect but it is in the T&C that they would refund the deposit if the finance is reflected. In effect the vehicle order is subject to finance.
Many thanks to all. Should have gone to someone other than the salesperson in the first instance.0 -
