Thank you I am now reassured by that - why would I need a saline drip?
You probably won't, they like to put a canula in just in case you do. It can be tricky to get one in in a hurry, so it's best to pop it in before when they can take their time.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -

Do please turn up for your op.
OH was two years in severe pain awaiting a total hip replacement. waiting lists are long.
I was amazed to discover that many people just don't turn up for their op without contacting the hospital beforehand so that someone else could have the chance of that place on the waiting list. It's an expensive time for a hospital - everything is geared to you turning up & it would be a shame not to - you will need to have the op done & it is best to get it done as soon as poss - get it out of the way.
It is understandable to be nervy - that's natural, but please do go.
I will definitely turn up for the op0 -
Let's us know how you've got on please - all the best for a restful evening if poss.0

They also say I must bring all my medications in I suspect to keep me in to get over the general.
One of the reasons for bringing all your medicines in is so they can check what you are on and if anything they are going to give you might react with anything you are already taking - not everyone can provide an accurate list of everything they take, with dosages.
The other reason will be if you do need to stay in longer than expected (because there is a delay going in to surgery for instance) there isn't any concern over them.
I hope it goes well. But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,Had the whole of their cash in his care.

Thank you - I believe general antithetic is highly dangerous - I know someone who suffered severe memory loss and other problems following a general
I had my first general the day after I was born and have had many many surgeries since including my most recent which was seven hours long, I'm still perfectly fine. I wouldnt be if I hadn't of had all of those though. Thousands of people have general anaesthetics everyday. My surgeon once wanted to do one of mine under a nerve block and I said no way did I want to be aware of what was going on (couldn't think of anything worse) all I wanted was a general and insisted upon it. I personally like generals because it's like going for a nice sleep and you wake up when it's all over, also feels like it's over in an instant. Anaesthetist was quite happy to do a short general when she heard my fears about the block. Talk to the anaesthetist they will take your feelings into account. They have paperwork etc they have to go through with you on the day they will always come to see you before hand. You will have a cannula regardless, they need to be quickly able to access the bloodstream if necessary. No Buying Unnecessary Toiletries 2015/2016/2017/2018

As promised I am reporting back about my operation of today.
I turned up for the operation.
As Choille and many others of you said it will be ok and it was the Hospital and staff went out of their way to be kind and understanding.
I arrived at 7.15am after getting up 5am and Choille was right I wouldn't sleep very well.
I saw the Consultant & Anaesthetist and both were very understanding and both agreed to have a block was right and going by my medical history/problems having a general antithetic would be wrong.
The Consultant said the only proviso.was if a Anaesthetic was available but if not we would just have to do it on another day.
The op went ok and I finally came out of Theatre at about 1pm.
I was given a cannula in my hand which as was said on here just for emergencies.
My only only complaint was they looked after me too well - I wanted to get out as soon as I could after the op as my OH had been waiting in the car in the car park all the time but the Hospital insisted I went into a recovery ward then on a ward before finally discharging me at around 3pm.
I feel a bit of a plo*ker worrying about it now but I was very worried going what was on my record, and one of the Nurses in recovery said she could see I was a bit anxious and worried but by that time I was getting worried about my OH.
Thank you to all my friends on here for being so understanding and explaining things to me.
I have now got to wait to rid the aesthetic from my very numb arm.
Before I left I was given a coffee and sandwiches0
