Nothing, they are both the same thing ,some areas of the country call them "Box sash windows" and other areas call them "sash windows"..
Its similar to the word "Joiner", in the South a Joiner was the man who made Joinery (windows,Staircases, kitchens, doors etc) and the man who fitted the Joinery was called the carpenter whereas further North the "Joiner"would fit the windows, doors, stairs etc.
There are different types of carpenters too, we have "first fix" carpenters who pitch roofs, studwork, floor joists, door linings etc and he will do all the carpentry work thats needed prior to the walls being plastered.
Any work to do after the plastering was tradtitionally done by the "second fix " carpenter so he would hang the doors, fit skirting boards, architraves, kitchens etc.. Today some guys just do all of the carpentry work and some just do certain jobs like fitting kitchens.
Just to add to the confusion Luca there are different types of "sash" windows including sash windows,Box-sash window, casement window, stormproof sash window etc etc etc..:D The "sash" refers to the part of the window that opens.0 -
Thank you leveller,
I thought that "sash-box" and "sash" is different due to the position of the movement
