I'm using a macbook and have created Admin and child account, the problem is that only the admin account appears on the log in scrren so I have to log in with that then log out before the child one appears.
My question is what settings can I change so that they both show on the log in screen
Thanks in advance

Go into System Preferences.
Select Users & Groups
click on the padlock at bottom left and enter the Admin password so you can make changes.
You'll see the users listed on the left and at the bottom it says login options, click on this. At the top on the right you should now see a box labeled Automatic login. Turn this off using the little arrows on the right side of the box.
When you reboot you should now have the choice of accounts at power up.One by one the penguins are slowly stealing my sanity.0 -

Have you got FileVault turned on?
FileVault is another security tool, it encrypts the hard drive to protect data. If it's turned on then only the Admin user has to log in first as you describe before other users can.
You can allow other users to log in at power on in System Prefrences under Privacy & Security.
If FileVault isn't turned on then you might have to try and fix the broken account or even delete it and create a new one. Some people with this issue find this the easiest way to sort it.One by one the penguins are slowly stealing my sanity.0 -
Another thought.
in Users & Groups
Right Click on the User ID and select advanced options.
What does it say in the various boxes? In particular the Home Directory box?
It should be /Users/username
Where username is whatever the username you set was.One by one the penguins are slowly stealing my sanity.0
