Debenhams flower vent

Options
With everything else going on, this has been forgotten about. However it may be of use for those looking for flowers for mothers day.

My wife's less-than-subtle hints that she has never received roses before (just before valentines funnily enough) got me looking into a bouquet of roses for the big day.

Looked into a few companies before settling for Debenhams, a dozen roses for £30 (before delivery).

I opted to pay the extra for the pre-midday delivery and was initially impressed when I was given an hour window and the option to track the van online.

The time slot came and went, the online tracker showed the van miles away, I was surprised to see the van turn up seconds later.

The driver handed the flowers over, but the moment was a little soured as he was too busy being told off over the phone about being late (therefore delaying him further) to promote what I would expect to be good customer service. (A smile would be too much to ask? Eye contact even?)

The flower looked good the first day, if slightly bent. By the fifth day they where half dead.
Of course Debenhams do have a flower guarantee, (although we wouldn't have wanted more flowers the moment had passed), unfortunately they where binned before I thought to look into it.

I've never brought flowers from Debenhams before, and maybe this is typical behaviour, but I was shocked that the product and delivery underperformed far cheaper alternatives.

  • I bought Debenhams Valentine's Roses and wished I hadn't bothered. Every year I look on MSE website for flower offers and always forget how rubbish the previous year's recommendations are. I have tried various online sites for bouquets and they have mostly been awful. Yet every year I take MSE's advice and go with one they list for Valentine's Day.
Debenhams were truly awful. 8 out of 12 Roses were blackened on arrival. 3 days later and they were nearly all dead. It took three emails to their support to finally get a full refund.

Supermarket bouquets are far superior to any of the online stores and are far cheaper than traditional florists. I wouldn't dream of spending £60 on a dozen roses for Valentine's from a florist shop when they will be £30 the day after.

So next year I am going to Sainsburys!
  • I ordered the flowers from debenhams using the voucher code. As another commenter states you would get better flowers in Tesco. I received 4 wilted stems of Roses, 2 skinny pink lily stems 4 stems of greenery. They do not resemble anything like the picture shown. I have e-mailed the company. I am hoping for a refund.:(

My other half walked in with roses from Morrisons. Lovely. I shop at Morrisons so I know exactly how much he paid for them.

2 bunches, 10 white, 10 red, mixed into a vase they looked stunning. 10 days later they still looked stunning but open more, obviously. I 'tended' them, cut leaves of and they lasted a few more days. I just put them on the compost heap yesterday.

All that for just £2.50 a bunch.... brilliant, good old Morrisons...
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
  • I posted a couple of weeks ago, also saying do not use!
Flowers did not arrive on 12th Feb as promised. In the end, they arrived two weeks late, and promised bouquet upgrade and box of chocolates did not arrive either!
Flowers are not in great condition, arrived damaged, and whereas the roses are practically dead (after 3 days), lilies are yet to open up, so it basically looks crap.
I would never use Debenhams flowers again.

I second the recommendation for Morrisons flowers. They are my go-to place when buying for people and always seem to last ages.

    Really well priced too.
