Extended warrent dispute

I have a extended warranty on my fridge freezer which is 6 years old and cost £550 when new , then it was expensive as the F/F was a top range model .This month I had option to use the warranty.when the engineer had left , i found that he left some parts on the floor a screw he had not refitted and a hinge part he lost whilst refitting the door ( which he did say not to worry about at the time ) I duly replaced the screw in its correct hole ..as he didn't ...on inspecting the fridge I found he had cracked a piece of trim damage the door and not located the the control panel correctly , and now the Freezer ices up as the new door does not fit correctly ... I contacted the Insurance who said they would supply me a NEW appliance of similar spec ...in fact what they are attempting to supply me is a F/F of lower spec , less feature ,less shelves , a different colour and different mechanical spec ..when I pointed out a machine more similar spec (but still below the spec of mine) they said it was classed as a upgrade and I would have to pay £200 extra even though the actual price difference is only about £20 in curry's for it my policy states if a machine is written off i would get new for old of similar tech specs ...the fact is the policy states similar specifications NOT price and a machine more closely resembling mine is more expensive ...

What exactly does the warranty say? (sorry your initial post is a little unclear). You'd be bound by whatever terms the extended warranty states.
As the fridge freezer is over 6 years old you no longer have recourse via SOGA etc...0 -
It may help to make a comparison table showing the current spec, the spec of Currys suggested replacement, and the spec freezer you have found.
Then you need to quote the exact phrasing in the warranty (ie where you say "my policy states if a machine is written off i would get new for old of similar tech specs") - quote what exactly it says.
Use these facts as the basis of your argument with Currys.0 -
thanks all another phone call to the insurance company expressing my views has resulted in a new offer ...0
