Confused IB50 sent?

Last year I received a letter from DWP saying I had no need to send anymore sick notes, also I was excempt from having to have a medical. A few weeks ago I moved address, so wrote and told them. I then received this IB50, not sure if it's a new version as on the mental health section it just asked me to explain how my 'nerves affect' me.
Also, it say's they don't need the MED4?

A bit confused and stressed, had a terrible year a sudden death in my family put me back in mental health.

Thanks for any help

The letter you were sent last year would have told you when your claim would be reviewed again. It would appear that this is now the time.
As a Med 4 is only issued once by your GP, it's not needed again.
JCP will have wrtten to your GP for an update on your condition.
You should fully complete and return the IB50 within the 6 weeks you are given. If you need to, ask a friend/advice worker to help you complete the IB50.
  • Hi thanks for your reply, the letter from them last year didn't mention a review? it said because of my condition I didn't have to have a medical etc.
Do they send stuff out by mistake?

Any organisation can send out letters/forms by mistake. I suggest you ring your the JCP office that has sent you this IB 50 and ask for confirmation.

But they haven't asked you to have a medical. It doesn't automatically follow that you will have a medical if you receive an IB50. My husband didn't have to have one after his last IB50.

I would ring them to clarify why they have sent the IB50. It's probably just due to your change of circumstances.

    Good luck!

  • hi there i was just about to start a new thread but might as well ask in here as its relevant ,how often do the IB50 forms get sent out ?

i only ask because i had one 12 month ago ,i failed the medical but won on appeal just over 4 months ago, nothing has changed in the 4 months since the tribunals decision if anything my condition is worse due to the added stress of the ordeal ??

i suspect a computer system error but how can i be sure

it varies. on the letters etc you received that said that your benefit was going to continue it would say how long before the next review. I received IB for less than 6 months before I received my first IB 50 which I susequently had a medical, failed it and won the appeal. From the date of my first IB50 to the next it was 12 months. After the medical resulting from the second IB50 I passed the medical and got a letter saying my next review isnt until september 08 (hurrah!)

You will have to fill it in if you receive it, best thing is to get someone to help you like someone from the local citizens advice bureau or welfare rights service

Forms IB50 are issued when an IB/IS claim is due to be reviewed. Every claim, as with every incapacity, as with every individual, is different. When someone passes the PCA medical, the letter sent tells you when your claim will be reviewed again. This review date is decided by a Decision Maker, and based upon the individual customer/the incapacity/their expected rate of recovery etc. There is no right of appeal against this decision as it is part of the normal process of 'controlling' a claim. A review can be anytime from 3 months to 5 years after passing the PCA medical.
