my Mother has sold a property in the US and needs to move the money back to the UK. Anyone got any advice on best/most secure way of doing it. It is currently in an account with Bank of America,

Surprisingly, I don't see usual suspects Transferwise and CurrencyFair in the results. Is it because of some restrictions in USA?
Re the 'best' you have to define it, as the most secure way (bank transfer) is usually far from being the cheapest - expect to lose ~3% on currency conversion.
