Switch bank for reward/bonus

Hi,can you use new current account to switch to another bank account which gives u reward? i.e if you have HSBC current account for few weeks can you use it to switch to M&S so you can get bouns and reward? or you need to have had the account for few years or months then they switch reward will be paid? thanks
