Hello all, I recently switched accounts to HSBC for the £120 reward. I got a letter through that I've been accepted.

Just wondering if anyone knows if:
1) how long it takes roughly to get the account sorted after going in branch
2)if I can pay in/cash out using the account number and sort code I've been provided? With ID in branch?

I'd like to pay in the £500 required and hopefully get the reward before the 29th and apply for a first direct account for their reward and their 6% regular saver.
Thanks

  • I am in the same position as you, I don't think it would be wise to pay any money in until you receive your card.

Online banking told me my account did not exist when I tried to register, but I had a letter with account number etc.

I understand it can take upto 14 days.

How could you have switched before having the account 'sorted'?

Regardless, I think your are far too over-optimistic about the 29th:

That said, IIRC, you have 3 months to switch to FD after opening their account (don't take my word for this).

    1) Maybe you'll find an answer to that on the lengthy HSBC incentive thread just a little lower down the board?

    2) Don't know the current situation as I try and avoid branches, but I seem to remember from last time I was with them you needed a debit card?

You'll be lucky to get the incentive by the end of this month, being as the T&Cs say "within 70 days".
  • @grumbler I agree the 29th is optimistic however that's when the MSE reward ends and I'd like to take advantage of it.
    IRRC?
And I was hoping to try speed the process along by paying in the £500 asap using my given account number

    1) I'll be sure to check that thread out
    2) I thought you could use your account number with proof of ID but I wasn't sure. Hence the post
And who knows? Maybe they're just eager to give away money?
My Halifax reward came within a week I believe? It wasn't long. Maybe 70days is a worse case scenario?

I paid money in and out before I had my card, I paid it in online, then I went to branch with my sort code and account number and ID.

I'm expecting to wait the full 70 days for my £120, unless the 70th day is a sat/sun/bank holiday.

    I'd guess you will also.

I should think so, bearing in mind the T&Cs said...
The offer will be paid directly into your account within three working days once your switch has completed.
Maybe 70days is a worse case scenario?
Maybe that's why they say "within 70 days"? ;)

Remember, not all switching incentive T&Cs are the same!
  • Fairly new to the forum. Getting used to the abbreviations still.
    Thanks for the confirmation, Dan
Yeah on the other thread it mentions that people had to be patient.
  • Yeah Halifax are good like that, they gave me 6months overdraft with no fees too.
The other other option is to switch my Halifax account to be able to receive both rewards but I'd like to keep it really

Or be really cheeky and pay in £500, switch the same day and hope they pay it into my new account with first direct since technically I met all the criteria? (which I know is REALLY REALLY unlikely)
