Damp proof/ new plasterboard/plaster/air vent

Hi We've had a quote for the above for quite a small bay window. He will damp proof it, hack of the plaster, put water resistant plasterboard on, fit an air vent and replaster for a cost of £400. This seems expensive to me but wanted to know what you thought. Thanks for the responses!

Doesn't seem miles off to me.
I guess the question we should ask is what is causing the damp, and is cause being dealt with as well?0 -
Thanks for the reply. He said he thinks its just condensation but will inject some damp proofing just to make sure. It seems expensive to me but I know nothing about these things!0

Expensive?
Inspection,remedy and completing the works.
As long as it is condensation.
A professional survey would cost you more.
Worth a try IMO.0 -
Builders bodge?:rotfl:
Fitting water resistant plasterboard etc isn’t curing the problem its just slowing down the visible signs? Find cause before remedying otherwise it will come back or you’ll just move the problem elsewhere?
Are there other signs of condensation inside? Plenty of info online about lowering condensation /humidity levels etc online as a starter.http://www.northlanarkshire.gov.uk/CHttpHandler.ashx?id=4157
Some would check humidity levels with appropriate measuring device (you can get digital ones on fleabay cheap but spend around £20 and get a better one ?) Also ventilating room, buying a dehumidifier etc
Check outside, ground levels, air bricks sealing around windows, cracks in bay, leaking guttering etc defiantly last thing is get works done before you know what’s causing it?0 -
Treat the cause not the symptoms. Walls do not need an injected damp proof course or any other kind of damp proofing. You need to stop or mitigate the source of the damp or you could just make things worse.

There's black on the walls and it feels wet and the paint is also peeling. Doesn't look nice!0

Top, bottom, all over?0

All over the bay window bit really in patches0

Maybe too late here but bay windows are notorious for condensation, due to them mostly being built with a single skin of bricks/stone and therefore no cavity. This will make it by far the coldest wall in the room, attracting moisture which will condense on that particular wall. Solution is to insulate the wall, internally, externally or both.Banks - If they sold cars the wheels would come as 'extras':mad:0
