Hi all, just after opinions as to whether the quote I've been given is reasonable or should I shop around, I've not actually found a specific property yet but this is the info I've given...
- Purchase price of around £105K
- Cash purchase, no mortgage involved
- Freehold
- I'm willing to proceed without obtaining local authority searches
The quote I've got back is £690 inc vat plus bank transfer fee £42, plus Stamp duty Land Tax Return fee £42
Does this sound pretty much ball park (especially considering there's no l.a. searches for them to deal with) or should I get a few more quotes? There are only 2 conveyancing sols in my town so I wouldn't be at all surprised if the other one comes back with near identical figures.

In the West Mids/Staffs I'd expect £450 + VAT with no charge for the SDLT return and a lower fee for the bank transfer.I am a mortgage broker. My solicitor is charging us £640 and that with all the searches included. We are in Warwickshire.0

Thank you for the replies so far, so it is looking rather high especially considering there is no mortgage or l.a. searches or leasehold issues for them to have to deal with.0

Go to the next town if you need more quotes - you'll only need to see them in person once or twice and most of the contact can be done via email or phone.
Have you asked around for recommendations - quality service is more important than price!0 -

I was charged £500 + VAT by a local solicitor for my house purchase in Birmingham last year, although there was quite a bit more paid out in disbursements.0

Thanks again, yes I suppose I should look into DIY, having previously purchased from a relative I do know just how simple the process can be in theory, although I have heard of instances where vendors solicitors can be very awkward or even refuse to deal with a buyer who is DIYing their conveyancing.0
