Issue with hob extractor fan

Hi
A few weeks ago the lightbulb went out on our extractor hob with a loud bang. It even short the fuse in the fuse box. Changing the lightbulb didn't work & I quickly found the fan had gone too (have had the light go off once before & it was simply a case of changing the buln but, not this time, the whole thing had stopped working). I checked a few thing myself & got the guy eho fitted it with the rest of the kitchen a coupled of years back to have a look.
We checked the plug fuse, the fuse on the fan, the wiring in plugs & fan &all seems OK. The only issue neither of us had come across before is a little unit within the fan (might be a transformer?) with these details: Lifosa mkp F1M 40040PG, 4mf +/- 5%, 425/475v, EN 60141-1. I've looked on the internet to see the price if it was reasonable to order & change myself & see if that works, otherwise we would have to get an electrician in.
Any thoughts/ideas what it might be?
PS hood was bought from b&q but they do not keep any spare parts for the units!

It looks like this but like I said earlier I'm just guessing this might be faulty as we've exhausted all other possibilities we're familar with (neither of us are proper leccys but we know a decent amount to solve simple to mid level issues)

I would say the image you posted was a capacitor , they are readily available from Maplins or ebay
