But, you don't need to have given permission for a whole range of organisations to place you under financial surveillance via CRA data feeds and other reporting. Any organisation with "reasonable cause" (the term is purposely ill-defined by the ICO and the financial sector), and many others that don't have reasonable cause (e.g. local government) can investigate you.

Fully agree GingerBob I was more commenting about credit applications, agreements and ongoing risk management. I fully accept that CRA information can be used in far more situations than most folk would actually be comfortable with if they knew!

When I enquired about a loan with Lloyds last year I was told they update their customers' credit "worthiness" around the middle of the month.

Seeing as Halifax are part of the same Banking Group I'd imagine they follow a similar process.

Probably not unless your T&Cs state that you've given permission to the group. Usually the permission is given to the particular bank/lender you're dealing with. But that's not to say that banks/lenders don't break the rules and share information they are not authorised to share. There are for example those posts on MSE and elsewhere which state that accounts with different banks in the same Group were all closed at the same time. c.f. Lloyds
