Sometimes it says it quite openly on the ingredients, other times they try to hide it by calling it 'Evaporated Cane Juice' or other such rubbish. If in doubt about any ingredients on the carton - google them.
But the upshot is that you turn a liquid that you don't have to worry about dentally speaking (cow's milk) into one that you have to treat like Coca Cola.
Really? The "vast majority"? Packed???
Most types have an "unsweetened" variant. I've never seen "cane juice" referred to as an ingredient, and the standard nutrition breakdown panel has to list the amount of carbohydrates including "from sugars". For example, the cheap Morrisons UHT unsweetened soya milk has 0.3g of sugars per 100ml. Coca Cola has 10.6g of sugars in 100ml. Thats 35 times as much ...
I wouldn't be able to use the stuff if it was "packed with sugar" as I don't like my tea sweet.0 -
The best selling brand of almond milk in the uk is alpro. The first two ingredients are water and sugar, almonds only make up 2% of the ingredients ! http://www.alpro.com/uk/products/drinks/almond/original-fresh
So it's not so much almond milk as flavoured sugar water.0 -
Almond milk gave me just as many, if not more, digestive problems as regular milk does.
I drink black tea and coffee and have a splash of hot water on breakfast cereal.Decluttering, 20 mins / day Jan 2024 2/20 -
Note, I always go for Unsweetened Soy milk, [per 100ml fat:1.9g, protein:3.4g, carbohydrates < 0.5g]. Even with these small amount of carbs, it still doesn't get a good press for dental health!

I recently converted to Almond milk (from semi skimmed cows milk) and was surprised at the taste (I now prefer the taste to cows milk - it tastes fresher/cleaner) - I was wondering why anyone would prefer cows milk ?
Almond milk is slightly more expensive than cows milk - but has many health benefits !!
Anyone else in the same situation ?
No thanks but if you want Almond milk why not make your own?

I switched to unsweetened by Almond Breeze as I found Alpro to be too thick and wasn't the best with protein powder. it's also majorly overpriced, even though I only ever bought it when it was £1.
Also use unsweetened soya (sains) but it's proper flavourless and better for homemade porridge.0 -
I use different milks for different things:
Oat milk for my porridge in the morning
Soya milk for coffee (probably have 2 or 3 a week)
Almond milk for "cheese" sauce which again I probably have once a week
Koko milk for tea (which is super duper rare)
I don't drink cows milk as I can't fathom why society has decided it's acceptable to drink some animals milk and not others. I'm not saying this to cause a debate, but just to say why I personally don't and will ignore anyone who tries to argue with me as it's all personal opinion and I would like you to respect that as I respect yours.
My H2B drinks cows milk as does my family so it's always in the house. My debt free diary

How do you manage to keep so many different milks fresh for things you don't have often? But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,Had the whole of their cash in his care.

It contains Lactase which 'pre digests' the lactose in the milk. This breaks it down to glucose and galactose (which both cause tooth decay)
So Lacto milk needs to be used carefully as well.
I never knew that.
It explains so much.
Now I have to find an alternative that doesn't contain sugar or lactose.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards.
