Microscopic black bugs in conservatory

Hi I am in the middle of clearing out a rarely used corner of our conservatory and have found that it is infested with tiny tiny black bugs... I would probably call them mites or weevils... I had a pile of papers there and there is a wooden cabinet too. What could they be? And how do I get rid?

Thanks :-)

  • Not sure - but look like woodworm! If the wood has little holes in them that's what it is. Take ALL the wood out and burn it otherwise the woodworm will spread. Also spray it with woodworm killer, also.
  • It is a beetle but there are lots of small black species and we would need a much better image to provide an ID.

If they are woodworm you should easily be able to identify where they have emerged from, just check all the wood in the area for the tell tell holes. Chances are these are harmless outdoor species and are over wintering in you home.

they look like booklice. we had an infestation of them. they love books (hence the name), papers etc, i sometimes see them inside our dresser cabinet aswell. They love mould even if its microscopic and high humidity. deal with those and the problem will reduce. This time of year they are very common
Even a stopped clock tells the right time twice a day, and for once I'm inclined to believe Withnail is right. We are indeed drifting into the arena of the unwell.

Hi all, thanks for your help., its hard to provide a better picture because they are so tiny - the picture should enlarge if you click on it. But they are about 1 mm long.

I can't see any holes in the wood of the cabinet. I am reluctant to pay to get a specialist pest controller in... Im hoping you are right Keep Pedalling and that they are a harmless species trying to stay warm. Just in case it is something that likes damp, I have put the dehumidifier and heater on to dry the place out.

    Thanks :-)
