Look at hobbyking for Turnigy batteries.
There's not much choice there, no 8 or 16-packs of AAs and only two 4-packs to choose from. However, I tried to order a 4-pack of these http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__55554__Turnigy_Rechargeable_Battery_AA_2550mAh_NiMH_4pc_.html
because one of the applications for which I need them is my mother's landline telephone. It's used infrequently so I thought these low self-discharge types would be ideal, especially with the capacity being a decent 2550mAh. Sadly, there's a delivery charge of £5.66, much more than sending them through the Royal Mail, surely?

I too had a bad experience with7dayshop batteries. I would advice not looking for highest capacity but low self discharge types like eneloop, Turnigy and the green Tronic ones from Lidl which J find quite good.
In the light of your post I should add that the only Tronics I have had (AA, AAA and C) are the grey and black ones with red lettering).

BTW, Advice is the noun (as is a vice, or even just vice:)), and advise is the verb.

You dont really need high capacity or low self discharge batteries for a landline as they are usually kept on charge continually and only need to last the length of a phone call. I use cheap ones off eBay in mine.

The Black and red Tronic batteries I've had are awful, I think they are a complete con. Less than 50% of advertised capacity.
The black and green tronics, low self-discharge were actually ok. Not sure why the discrepency.

My mother complained of a much lower ringing tone volume and when I visited I replaced the discharged alkaline batteries with my rechargeables. I was surprised to find the volume restored because I always thought landlines used the current that travels through the line and that the batteries were only for the caller ID display and log.

If its a cordless landline phone the handsets normally have rechargeable batteries and not alkaline. The base unit recharges them.

    It's not.

I'm surprised about the negative reviews for the 7dayshop batteries. I've been using them for years, heavily using them and recharging every day. Perhaps that's the difference, I use them for 12hrs then immediately recharge them, so self-discharge isn't an issue for me. They only need replacing about every 12 months, which is the same with Duracell etc under heavy use.
Your post contains a negative view of your own! 7dayshop batteries claim they are good for a thousand charges yet you are saying they need replacing after barely a third of that number.

Not necessarily. They don't need replacing any sooner than the name brands I've used.

No, they want you to order 8 because they make more money, but as you are on MSE I presume you will ignore this and buy 2 x 4-packs. If you've never seen such pricing inconsistencies when supermarket shopping you've lived a very sheltered life.
But out of the £1.41 they'd gain if I bought 8, they have the cost of an extra package to be made up on top of an extra delivery cost. If there's any extra profit left after that then I wouldn't think it worthwhile, considering the number of potential customers it's likely to annoy!

What does it matter just buy 2 of the 4 packs. I normally buy the ready to go low discharge rechargables, they're currently £5.49 per pack of 4 but you can also buy 2 packs at a discount working out at £4.99 each.

my issue with 7-day shop is their extremely lackadaisical attitude to website security a while back when a website issue left customers details - including cards, wide-open for any lowlife to harvest.

They let that situation run uncorrected for far too long, despite many complaints. :(
