Hi folks,
Just ran a check with speccy same lot as do ccleaner, on my sons computer and a little concerned about system temp though the cpu temp seems ok as far as I can Its a small form factor pc from Stone computers
Operating System
Windows 10 Home 64-bit
CPU
Intel Pentium G3430 @ 3.30GHz 34 °C
Haswell 22nm Technology
RAM
8.00GB Single-Channel DDR3 @ 698MHz (10-10-10-25)
Motherboard
ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. H81M-P-SI (SOCKET 1150) 104 °C
Graphics
HT231 (1920x1080@59Hz)
Intel HD Graphics (ASUStek Computer Inc)
Storage
465GB Western Digital WDC WD5000LPVX-60V0TT0 (SATA) 30 °C
Optical Drives
TSSTcorp CDDVDW SN-208FB
Audio
Realtek High Definition Audio
As you can see the motherboard temperature highlighted in red is 104 but otherwise computer is running ok and cpu temp seems ok.
Is this normal for temperature of motherboard to be this? Computer did have a few problems with not powering on and had to be turned to pc builder a few times, but seems to be running ok now except for the motherboard temperature.
I downloaded another utility speedfan and same result.
Thanks for any advice.

No!
I'm no expert with this kind of thing, but my motherboard temperatures tend to be about 15C above ambient, so around 30 to 40C.
To be honest, I would be highly suspicious of that figure. Over 100C for a motherboard doesn't seem possible.
Hopefully someone with a bit more hardware knowledge can confirm...0 -
Thanks for replies. Well I downloaded Open Hardware Monitor, thanks for that link, and here is the summary pasted in.

Once again thanks for any advice as to whether there is a problem or not, the computer does seem to be running fine otherwise and no great deal of heat coming out of vents and outside does seem cool enough to the touch.
As stated its a small form factor pc maybe just larger than an xbox.0 -
umm sensors are often wrong , I am running a sharkoon sub minicture itx box with a g3258 overclocked to 4.3 gig
one of my sensors shows -15 degrees!Save a Rachael

Thanks for reply.
Probably just a little worried that computer might somehow cause a fire as I often leave a desktop on if leaving the house for a few hours.
As stated same result with speccy and speed fan, don't know about the open hardware monitor result.
Thanks yet again0 -
I suspect that the sensor is not reading correctly
when I built a system , I dump openharwaremonitor into a directory , and click on "start with windows"
always do this whilst evaluating a setup
as you can see the G3258 is overclocked to 4.3g , using a asrock z97 micro itx , when you go on forums they "brag" about there "super coolers" and water cooling and 42 case fans that are needed to do this
the standard intel fan and heatsink are well adequate IF you tidy cables away and sort your airflowSave a Rachael

I can't promise that there's nothing wrong, but I really don't think your motherboard is running at over 100C. I'm sure it would start to burn and you'd smell it!
As above, sensors are often wrong. I think it's because every motherboard manufacturer implements the sensors slightly differently, so software reading the sensors has to understand how to interpret the raw data coming from the board. Is it a fairly new motherboard? Maybe the software doesn't properly recognise the sensor outputs...?
Some software seems to have problems with sensors that aren't connected. A fixed, unchanging temperature can be an indication of this. Does your ~100C reading fluctuate much or at all?
I'd be less worried about a PC catching fire than most other electronic items because there are thermal and electrical cut-offs built in to the PSU and other components. That's not to say it can't happen, but... well... I don't think the motherboard would even work at the reported temperature.0 -
Have you tried installing the ASUS software for your motherboard, it may need a special way of reading the data which 3rd party software is struggling with.
You could also check in the BIOS, some of them have the temperatures displayed there.
Its very unlikely to catch fire, the PC is more likely to shut down well before that happens.
if the motherboard was really running at 100C, then it will be causing all kinds of problems, so if the PC is running fine, then its not at 100C0 -
Thanks a lot for replies which has reassured me that nothing may be wrong.
Cycrow windows 10 seems to be running fine so a bit reluctant to install any extra software that may screw it up. Will have a look at support cd to see if any monitoring software there.
CPU is normal temperature in bios, but no other temperature monitors there.
When I got pc back after having to send it back for power up problem, it must have got rough handing by DPD as front of case had halfway come off, but was able to just click it back into place.
Esuhl, no the system temp mainly stays around the 104 but the cpu at the moment is 30 and usually stays around that as wll, I would have though too that if motherboard system temperature was high it would be more than likely that cpu temp would be high too.
As regards fans working ok in case, does the Open hardware monitor summary that I pasted in in earlier post seem to show that they are functioning ok?
Many thanks again for everyone's replies and assistance, really appreciated.0 -
Yes, you need to use the motherboard manufacturers utility to see which sensors are actually in use and to get a good reading.Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0
