Denied credit - how long to reapply

I have applied for a credit card with newday* and been denied. I have a 999 perfect score with Experian who they use. I can tell now that it's because I changed address a month ago and applied with that address but it doesn't show on my credit file. So I think I have two options, below, and I want to go with the first. Will I be reapplying too soon?
1) Reapply with my old address so it matches the file. I have a post redirect setup until 12/04 so I would need to apply by about 5/4 to get it in time. So I would be reapplying 8 weeks after the initial decline
2) Send them a letter politely asking they reconsider and including proof of my new address.
Thanks
*It's actually a staff discount credit card for a retailer I work for.

I wouldn't reapply with your old address. Although done with the right intentions, you could actually end up being flagged for fraud.
I would ask them to reconsider your application. Ask them to process it manually in the light of the information as to your address change and any evidence you are able to provide them with.
But you might still be refused, of course.0 -
Option 1 would be classed as 'deception to gain a pecuniary advantage', ie fraud.
So on balance I'd go with option 2.0 -
When you applied with your new address I assume you added your former address on the application? Personally I wouldn't reapply for at least 6 months but that depends on Newdays T&Cs. Have you also checked your credit file at Noddle (CallCredit) and Equifax?0

I'm surprised that a new address has affected you unless lenders have not reported your new address to the CRA and your old address is not appearing on your credit history as a linked address. You won't know that unless you look at your credit history. If you have informed your lenders of your change of address wait a month and look at your credit history to see if your addresses are reported correctlly before applying again.
The other reason for rejection regarding addresses is that you cannot provide verifiable U.K. addresses over the lasr three years.0 -

Just for completeness, the s16 Theft Act 1968 offence of "obtaining a pecuniary advantage by deception" was repealed by the Fraud Act 2006. The modern equivalent is "fraud my misrepresentation", s2 Fraud Act 2006.
Both offences would be subject to a test of dishonesty - usually the "Ghosh" test. If the OP used the old address in circumstances such as this "with the right intentions", then I don't think that the offence would be made out. But he could still get a marker on NHunter or whatever, where the criminal test doesn't apply.0 -
OP - have you registered on the electoral roll at your new address yet? If not, this would be worth doing as soon as possible....0

999 score - refused credit. I bet we get one of these posts every week!0 -
Thanks all. I've registered with my bank and electoral roll at my new address. Neither are showing on experian. I'll appeal the decision to them once they show up on my file.0

This may take a few months for the CRAs to update and reflect. Your bank are likely to be quicker in reporting your address as they update monthly but electoral roll updates to the CRAs are provided by local authority and these can take a while. You can ring your local authority to ask them when they will be updating the CRAs with your updated info.0 -
moving address just cost you 100 pointsDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0
