Neff Dishwasher flashing tap icon

we've a 2 yr old neff s51e5ox1gb intergratted dishwasher that started playing up today. the cycle fished but the tap icon was flashing and it sounded like the pump was constantly running.
after some googling it said blocked pipes or flooded base and the noise was the anti-flood defense. so yurned it off and dragged it out. undid the side panel giving us the view above.
after seeing no water in the bottom, and tipping it 45 degrees, switched it back on and light was off? currently the machine is running on a hot cycle with no problems.
not keen on how mucky the pipes are in the picture above, but unsure hwat im looking at and how to clean, and also if it needs cleaning?
any advice on how to/if to clean and what it is would be appreciated.

Finish dishwasher cleaner or soda crystals would be my guess or even white wine vinegar0

That plastic thing looks like the device for measuring the incoming water. It looks OK from here! The base of the machine should be like a bowl, collecting any leaking water, there's probably a polystyrene float in there somewhere which lifts & operates a microswitch. That stops the machine & turns on the pump to stop things getting worse. Can you run it in that position to see if you can see any leaks? Keep your hands off the electrical bits!
Of course things may have changed in the 15 years since I retired. I've never worked on a Neff but that looks amazingly like a Hotpoint made by Bosch.Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.0
