Switching to Halifax

I have been with Santander for about 10 years and had a 123 account however after they changed their monthly fee to £5 I changed to their everyday free current account. This got me thinking about switching bank account altogether as their is a lot of incentives out there at the moment. I was about to switch to Halifax but after looking to see where my nearest branch is it states on their page that there is not one in my town which surprises me as I think every other bank has a branch there. My question is if I have to pay in a cheque where do I pay it into? I know Halifax merged with Bank of Scotland so perhaps they share branches? I cant find this information on their webpage so any advice please?
