Life Insurance valid or Void????

After recently going through my paperwork, I noticed that my life insurance policy document was completely wrong. I looked into this further and found out that I hadn't actually signed the document and sent it back because of these errors. I contacted them and asked them to send me the documents I 'signed' and have heard nothing off them.

Is my life insurance therefore non existent? and if so, would I be due a refund of the fee they've been taking from my account?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Who are the lives assured? How wrong are the names? Are the gender and dates of birth correct? When you say the address is wrong do you mean not up to date or for an address you've never lived at?

Address has no impact on the policy unless it is overseas.

Name clearly would have an impact if its on the life assured. If its on the policyowner then where the money goes could have an impact.
. I contacted them and asked them to send me the documents I 'signed' and have heard nothing off them.

Did you sign anything? Most life assurance is not done by paper nowadays but electronically.

How did you buy the life assurance? Who arranged it for you? as you should be going to them to get this sorted.

Depends on the error. Who is responsible for the error and if the insurer says they would not have paid out. On most minor errors, it doesnt change anything. So, no refund would be applicable.

  • Myself and my partner. The second name of my partner is completely wrong. The gender and dates of birth are correct but the address is not for my current property but where I had my mail sent to before moving in.
  • I done it through Hannah insurance, they acted as a broker for Aviva. They emailed me declaration forms from Aviva and health consent forms which were not signed and Hannah insurance also email me an administration agreement which was not signed.

The policy holders last name is Plant and in all the forms they have put Bants.

So the only real error is your partners second name, the policy will be valid so nothing to worry about (unless you were hoping it would be invalid as a reason to get your premiums back)
  • If i haven't signed any declaration forms does that automatically not make it void?

the premiums aren't much so don't bother me but I don't want to be paying for something that isn't valid

    No.

Second name is not going to result in any issues. However, for tidiness you should go back to the broker and make them aware of the error and get them to correct it. That is what the broker is paid to do.
