Hi All,
I have a friend who has internet in his house just fine but now wants to extend the network out to his shed. Unfortunately the wireless signal wont reach due to the distance so he has run network cable to the shed and put a socket on the wall.
Would I be able to setup a LINKSYS WLAN 11AC WRT 1900AC CABLE ROUTER for this purpose?
When configuring, do I simply plug the network cable from the network socket in the wall to the WAN port on the Linksys router?
Would he still be able to access resources inside the home or should I plug the network cable into one of the LAN ports, disabled DHCP on the router and assign the router a free IP address in the same range as the home router DHCP scope?
Been looking online but not found any guides to configure.
Thanks
Kevin

When configuring, do I simply plug the network cable from the network socket in the wall to the WAN port on the Linksys router? you do, however you should have to plug the linksys into a lappy in order to pre-configure it so that when you plug it into the wall socket it will operate as intended from the main router.

This is how you configure the Linksys as per the para above, BEFORE you connect it to the wall socket. Remember to use a different SSID and password than on the house router

if he doesn't need wifi in the shed, then all he needs to do is plug laptop into the wall socket, if he does, then the above applies......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......

No. The Linksys router is just being used to extend the existing network, right? If so, you want to link an Ethernet port on the existing router to an Ethernet port on the Linksys router.Would he still be able to access resources inside the home or should I plug the network cable into one of the LAN ports, disabled DHCP on the router and assign the router a free IP address in the same range as the home router DHCP scope?
Yes -- that's it. Although I think you'll need to assign the Linksys router an IP address that is static, and therefore not in the DHCP pool (but on the same subnet).
Hope that helps.0 -
