O/S Daily Sunday 21 February 2016

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine

Morning everyone

Now light, wet underfoot but less windy and mild.

Dinner last night was egg veg fried rice, noodles, chicken in black bean sauce and spare ribs in bbq sauce - all eaten and enjoyed. Lunch today will be roast lamb with all the trimmings. Once the meat is cooking, I'll prep the veg and then organise the pack ups for tomorrow - then I'll get the rest of the day as a chill time.

Went to the bank yesterday then on to the phone shop - DS1's phone now sorted although they did say as it was the weekend, his number could take up to 48 hours to transfer - we visited both sets of parents after we'd finished in town, Rest of the day was quiet.

Have peaceful Sundays' everyone x

Keep safe and well x

    Morning all,

Thanks for starting us off nmlc x

Windy old day here, up first to sort dogs out and to give my OH a lie-in, bless him, has been so supportive over the last week.

Fully intend on having a lazy day ahead of going back to work tomorrow so will be coffee, bacon sarnies and the Archers omnibus this morning. Then this afternoon whilst all the footie is on will pop over to see Bil, might even have a gentle little walk down the lane, have missed riding my lad. There is pony club dressage on at the yard so might watch a bit of that as well, love seeing the little ones on their ponies, so cute :D

Judi pleased to hear that Ginge is healing well, let's hope more good news is to follow x

Have a good day everyone x
  • Morning all. Thanks NMLC. The good news here is the wind has died down at last. The bad news is we are forecast rain most of the day! But we have sun forecast for the next few days! Might plan a day trip out for tomorrow or Tuesday to enjoy it - a bracing walk at the seaside sounds a good idea!

Nothing planned for today. A chicken to roast for a traditional Sunday lunch and left overs of last night's Tagine to warm up for supper. I hadn't anticipated the recipe making quite so much! Though I suppose I could freeze it.

Fingers crossed JUDI that good news will follow on GINGE'S results and she can enjoy her holiday at the beach!

Have a good day all (((HUGS))) where wanted/needed and take care xx

    Morning All

At DDs, it's a horrible rainy grey day. Finished her painting last night and I have to say it looks really good. Just a couple of tiny corners to do later with an artists brush.

We're off to a car boot sale this morning in Edinburgh, not been for ages, used to go quite a lot when DS2 lived there. It's held on a floor of a multi story car park so at least it will be dry. Will probably have a wander while we're there, have some lunch and see what the day brings.

Judi - Glad your dog is on the mend.

    Enjoy Sunday. Take care. XX
  • Morning all

I slept badly Friday night, worrying about DD, yesterday she found somewhere to live, paid 6 months rent up front (the money was in the letting agents account from the previous debacle) has been given the keys and is moving Monday.

I slept like a log last night.

Hubby and I went over yesterday and are going over today to help with the packing.

To save wasting the hired van she is doing a tip run today for her sister who has had an old 3 piece in her garage for the last 3 months.

Judi, glad to hear the good news.

    Have a good day everyone.

    Hugs Hester

    Good morning everyone.

Great news Hester, and well done to your DD.

It's very grey outside, very low cloud here and gentle rain. The high winds have died down thank goodness. I slept well again though my little monitor tells me I was restless eight times during the night, maybe I turned over a lot.

Today I'll be adding books to my list as I'm losing track and buying the same book twice occasionally.

Plans for the day will have to wait as I'll be spending at least another hour in bed reading before I move.

    Happy Sunday everyone.
  • A happy peaceful Sunday to all. Raining here, again, but at least the wind has died down and the garden fence is still in one piece. Got some baking and meals to plan for the week ahead so will get them out of the way this morning. OH and the cat are both still snoring peacefully upstairs so just enjoying a quite cup of tea then will get breakfast sorted.
Kind thoughts and hugs to all who need some TLC today. xx

    Morning all,

Judi - glad Ginge is on the mend
LW - glad you and Mr LW have come to a decision - just in time for Spring too :)

DH was away early for work, making me a coffee before he went :). He,s hoping to be home by lunchtime, and will encourage him to put his feet up and relax.

Small gammon joint today with cauli cheese, a few roasties - I made panna cotta yesterday, so puds in the fridge already.

Will make some cupcakes, the Victoria sponge didn't happen yesterday, and cupcakes are easy for DH,s work 'lads' to scoff at work. That way I don,t eat them all.

Going to haul myself out of this warm bed (trying not to disturb all 4 cats) and get on - cleaning inside kitchen cupboards and drawers today.

    Take care all x

  • good morning chums ,wet and very damp here today but not too cold at least.I found a black cherry jelly in the cupboard when rooting around and made it up yesterday and once set added some cold custard on top.Saved me going to buy any of those small pudding yogurts today.Enough there for several days little puddings :)Looks and smalls delicious .Can't even remember buying it :):):)may have picked it up before Christmas .

Today's plans are this morning do my menus for the week then feet up a bit of knitting and with the Archers on the wireless (Helen is becoming such a drip with her controlling creepy husband)

Eldest DD will appear around 11.30 for scrambled eggs and coffee and tales of her adventures in New York no doubt.

This afternoon after doing a small bit of ironing and maybe a whizz around with the hoover I go off to youngest DDs for a late dinner , home by 8ish in time to watch a bit of tv then off to bed for a read .
Pleasant normal Sunday for me, with nothing too exciting or strenuous to do :):)

Hope everyone else has a good Sunday and stays dry and warm
    Cheers chums JackieO xx
  • Good morning all . Thanks to NMLC I hope you get your chilled day - enjoy .
TA Hope all is well with Mr TA and yourself .I'll keep my fingers crossed for some sunshine in the next few days .
Have a good trip today Camelot .
Hester So pleased your daughter has things sorted , she sounds very proactive ( obviously her mothers daughter )
Gers I have to agree re books I thought it was just me . The charity shops do well though !
    Welcome to Seraph .
LW Such good news . I hope you both enjoy .
Judi Your Ginge sounds a real toughie . I hope you are getting some better sleep .
Enjoy your peaceful time Jackie .
It's a week since my last post so haven't caught up fully .
Could everyone stop sending the wind here ? We're on a yellow wind warning here today and it's dry , grey and pretty blustery ,
I woke up early today freezing - boiler has packed up . Luckily it's a regular rather than a combi so I have a full tank of hot water . It will be a few days before my gas guy can come - away at the moment so I need to think of ways to maximise the hot water . Today I'll dig a casserole out and defrost and reheat in the microwave to minimise the washing up . If I rinse things in cold I can wash them in one go this evening . Not my normal way but needs must .
Have a good day all .

    Morning all,

Very blustery here but not raining atm have stripped the bed and got that in the wm will try to hang it out for a while as its a very heavy cotton set and takes ages to dry.

Had a good day yesterday cleaned whole house from top to bottom between the three of us so not a lot to do today just a quick tidy this morning.

I need to pop to the shop to get a few bits and bobs, I need some sudocrem I am suffering big time with dry skin patches on my face (stress brings it on, and it very stressy at work atm) and I thought sudocrem might help

Going to have an easy day will do some chicken thighs for dinner roasted with garlic cubed potatoes and roasted cherry tomatoes, will also get a curry ready for tomorrow to put in the sc while we are at work.

I have some shallots soaking in brine so will rinse off and pickle them later on, might get some more while im in Lidl to do next weekend.

Right have good days all xx
