LED Lights

Wth regard to recessed ceiling LED lights, our electrician is telling us we need waterproof ones for bathroom (makes sence)
He installed ones with replaceable bulbs in the kitchen recently, but they were ones which the bulbs could be replaced if they stop working. But he's suggesting ones for the bathroom that are a sealed unit & should the bulb go the entire unit has to be replaced.
At £30 each - & we need 10, this seems daft. Can you give me yiur experience of these type of lights & advise if we do have to have this type only in the bathroom, please?

Why do you need lots of recessed, waterproof(?) ceiling lights? One standard pendant light fitting would do the job fine for about a tenner.

Not necessarily daft, what kind of guarantee do they come with? Any half decent brand should work for at least 20 years, so although an initial expense they each work out at about £1.50 per year investment.

The lights would only need to be waterproof if in certain zones in the bathroom so not all will need to be (and maybe none). Why do you need 10? I have an 8 x 3 extension and need 12 to 14 for that so unless you are blessed with a bathroom the Romans would be proud of then you will probably need less.

You can buy IP65 rated light *fittings* such as the Aurora Enlite. These take standard GU10 bulbs (either halogen or LED).

I would personally go for units which can take replacement standard bulbs rather than non-replaceable light units

LEDs which are built from the ground up tend to come as a single unit and have very long service life (our Ecoled Zep1s ,come with a 5 year gsruntee)

Retrofit LED in GU10 isn't brilliant as the beam angles are not ideal for LED (hence leading to more spotlight effect), so I wouldn't fit those except for retrofit.

So it's more normal for LEDs not to be replaceable as they are designed to last significantly longer.
