I have just recently put my dog onto Burns. Any suggestions where best to buy online? Using th e puppy 12kg at the moment from zooplus.co.uk.
My vet suggested a switch of food as my pup was over licking himself. Grudge the price for the the food but willing to try anything to help my dog.

Personally I'd suggest another brand - you can get better for your money. Burns isn't a terrible quality food, but very high in fillers like rice, and you're paying a lot for what is essentially a pretty cheap ingredient!
I would check out the site https://www.allaboutdogfood.co.uk - Burns rates about 3.6-3.7 out of 5, but for the same price - or even less! - you could be getting a 5 star rated food.
I also wouldn't worry too much about buying a specific puppy food, unless the smaller biscuit size is a big deal (more of an issue with teeny dogs really), lifestage food is more a marketing ploy than anything else, there will be subtle but non-essential differences in the make up, certainly not worth paying extra for (especially if pup is already 6 months, as per your other post)
Another option to consider could be a raw diet - I know it doesn't suit everyone or every dog, but it can be good for dogs with allergies as you can limit to literally one ingredient at a time and pinpoint any dietary allergies to a specific protein/ingredient.0 -
I am worried about changing the now as we are trying to discover what is causing him to bite/chew himself.
Not as bad so thinking could it be because his teeth have been coming out. The other day three had decided to fall out in one day!He bites himself more so at night when he is in bed with me. Always with him and barley notice during the day.
Dog food is such a headache! I assumed as the vet suggested Burns or James Wellbeloved it was the best course of action.0 -
Vets cover very little on nutrition in their course - a lecture or two, usually sponsored by some big names in foods (usually Hills or Royal Canin, the two who do the prescription diets stocked by vets). If you trust your vet, get their opinion by all means, but do your own research too.
The site I linked above doesn't just rate the various products on the market, but flags up the worrying ingredients and also explains why they're of concern - so you'll learn what to look out for and what to avoid (in treats as well as their main food)0 -
Will spend some time having a look at what I can put him on. I would rather drive down the cost of his food- whilst making sure he will be fine.
I have often thought about this puppy food range as it appears ££ get added on. He has just turned six months(Lab) so will drop the MUST be on puppy food thought process.0 -
I have worked in a pet store for the past 10 years and completely agree with krlyr. Whilst Burns isn't the worst food on the market, it certainly does contain a lot of rice. There are far more natural and better quality pet foods on the market such as Orijen, Ziwipeak, Acana, Lily's Kitchen and Canagan. That being said I have seen a lot of customers who swear that burns has cleared up a lot of conditions in their dogs. So ultimately it has to be something that you decide.
Best of luck x0 -
It is proving to be a nightmare trying to decide what to do.0

We had a problem with our rescue staffy suffering from a very sensitive stomach ending up with with sloppy poops and blocked glands. We tried all the different dog foods from very cheap to very expensive that we could find and I was finally recommended Burns by a friend and it worked.
We signed up to the VIP club at Pets at home and get vouchers through the post which we use every other month for £5 off a big bag of Burns. I have never bought online though .
It has been a while since this was first posted did you get to the cause of your dogs problem?0 -
Going back to the vet soon. Seems to have calmed down the biting himself. https://www.zooplus.co.uk Is always the cheapest I find.0

Used to feed my dog Burns, but then heard about CSJ and he has been on that for years now - really loves it.
I was told it is made in the same factory as Burns.Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time :eek:0 -
If he's having itching/skin issues the first thing I'd do is remove all grain from the dogs diet.Sigless0
