Letter-dropping an area

  • You have absolutely nothing to lose, go for it!
I lived on a popular street in Cambridge and had quite a few of those letters popped through the door in my time there.

The ONLY ones that made me cringe were the EA ones.
The personal ones or ones obviously from families or young couples I actually found really sweet. Plus it doesn't matter if it makes anyone cringe you don't see their faces if they do!
  • I think it depends on your personality and that of the vendors to some degree.

The EA does the negotiating on your behalf.

Not if you are buying, they don't.
I think they key is establishing a rapport with the vendor and wanting them to want you to buy and that is never just about money.

    Yes it is.

I have never had a rapport with anyone I was buying a house from or selling to. I couldn't care less who they are or what they want to do with the house as long as they can get the money.
  • I did this 3 years ago and it was a success.

I wanted a house in a particular road and I dropped a note in about 6 houses that I liked the look of. The note was personal and short but friendly, with a brief reason about why I was looking to buy in that particular road/area - with my contact telephone number.

I received a text about 2 hours later. I viewed the house 3 times and it was mine 10 weeks later.

It really was a case of good timing on my part and since then I have had a note through my door from potential buyers as it is a popular area. I would seriously contact a potential buyer from a note if I wanted to move.

You have nothing to lose by dropping a note through the doors. If the timing is right you might just be lucky. Good luck!
