Not understanding something is fair enough. However, making a formal regulated complaint with allegations that is going to create stress and anxiety to a regulated individual and possibly a lifetime of additional cost as well as potentially harming their career.

Its easy to complain against banks, card providers etc as they dont hold their staff responsible. The staff are not individually regulated. IFAs are individually regulated and making fake complaints harms them.

If there is a genuine reason to complain then fair enough. However, why not ask the IFA for a reminder of what they have and why if they no longer have the information? Much fairer and reasonable than jumping to a complaint. Especially when there doesnt appear to be anything wrong?

This is a site that has been established for years on the premise of complaining and repeatedly tells people to 'have a go' and go to FOS for FS complaints because you cannot trust the first response from your bank/building society/adviser.

Really? how many staff have been disciplined over PPi sales?
How many bank clerks are individually regulated by the FCA?

And there is little consequence to anyone for doing so. Its a faceless, no issue complaint. However, that is not the case against regulated individuals.
I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. That doesn't make it right. It is one of the main reasons why the FCA complaints regime is no longer fit for purpose. It was designed to ensure fair treatment of that minority who genuinely believe they have been wronged or mistreated by the bank. Instead, it is basically being abused in a new era where the vast majority of complaints either start with the premise that the complainant wants some money and try construct a complaint to suit that goal, or are people who have been conned into it by dodgy CMCs (which luckily based on recent profit figures appear to be a dying breed).

That is a matter of opinion.

However, the fact remains that the OP is complaining that he was missold PPI with a company that has never provided PPI cover.

It is a bit like complaining that you got food poisoning from a bacon sandwich in a Jewish restaurant.

(I hope nobody objects to that comment - it is simply an illustration of the absurdity.)

Martin Lewis is a journalist. A commendably public spirited one yes, but a journalist nonetheless. They are not a breed who are overly concerned with technical accuracy.

Or responsible for the consequences of such inaccuracies.

Journalists are are in the business of getting people read what they write - so that somebody will pay them for writing it.

And nothing sells better than conflict - never let the truth get in the way of a good story.
