in Credit cards
i have balance transferred 3k from my mbna card to another credit card at 0 %. while i was on the phone the sales girl advised me to set up a direct debit for the minimum payment each month, as a missed payment would occur me a charge and i would lose the 0 % rate and it would revert to 14%.I agreed to this although i usually pay by bill payment and have never missed a payment or been late. well , i decided a couple days later to send a bill payment and cancelled the dd online with my bank. i ve received my statement today and they ve charged me £12 for an unpaid dd and reverted my interest rate to 14 %. i phoned them and they were very rude and said the automated statement i listened too said i had to cancel it with them. im sorry for this long rambling post but im really upset and now im stuck with the 14 %. is there anything i can do?

The only thing you can do is get on to customer services and ask them to explain what has happend.
you can pretend to know nothing about the DD but they will know it was cancelled by you or your bank.
I don't think they will give you your £12 back or return your debt to 0%.
It looks like you cancelled the DD just as it was about to take your monthly payment.Did the bill payment go through and arrive on the credit card in time.If it did I would complain and request your £12 back and a return to 0% rate.If it didn't arrive in time you will be stuck with the higher rate and your only option would be to move to another new card.Previously known as Bokken, registered at MSE in Nov 04,computer glich deleted my access but it is fun building up my stars from scratch,again.:D0 -
Cancelling a direct debit with the bank does not cancel it with the person you are trying to pay.
When you want to cancel a DD - you MUST inform the person who collects it.
Beyond asking MBNA to be nice - there's not much else you can do.

nightmare. yes my billpayment arrived in plenty of time, and i cancelled the direct debit 5 days before it was due. i thought the direct debit guarantee says something about you can cancel a dd and not incur a charge. is this true?0

Is the MBNA account new? If it is, phone up retentions on 0800 7831116 and they will usually refund fee & reinstate promo rate on first occasion. You may have just got through to someone having a bad day first time around.0

Listen to what people are saying to you.
You did not cancel the DD with the CC company, therefor the CC company tried to collect and it failed. You did not follow the conditions, you have to face the consequences.

Be as neckey as you can phone up MNBA and do some pleading it may get what you want.If not then you'll have to accept this as your mistake and make sure it doesn't happen again as it can get pretty costly.

This is why the DD Guarantee for which you sign states :-You can cancel a Direct Debit at any time by writing to your Bank or Building Society. Please also send a copy of your letter to us.
US refers to the company you have set the DD up with.0
