Connecting pond pump

Hello, Can someone please advise.
I would like to connect a pond pump in my garden. I already have an external socket (set up by previous owners for a pool pump). The pond is approx. 50m away and i only have a 40w pump to connect. Could someone suggest which is the right cable to use and how should i safely run the cable (i am assuming underground) i can run it along the fence all the way to the pond. What trunking can I use aswell? I would like to do it well and properly but i would like to spend as little as possible. Thank you in advance.

I have a pond pump and my cable runs along my fence, I had to use armoured cable and my electrician told me that it had to be armoured otherwise he wouldnt pass it in a safety test and would condemn it.I’m a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Competitions Time, Shopping & Freebies boards, Employment, Jobseeking & Training boards If you need any help on these boards, do let me know. 50m is long way, but as per the previous comment,, you need armoured cable - to run along the fence (doesn't need to be underground) then to the power source.
You can get weather proof connectors - by Blagdon - (any large Aquatic Centre) which connect the appliance cable to the armoured cable.
Some appliance cables can be quite long - but never 50 metres!!I used to work for Tesco - now retired - speciality Clubcard0 -
The alternative is something like this:-

Hi, we move threads if we think they’ll get more help elsewhere (please read the forum rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board. If you have any questions about this policy please email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com.
I’ve moved your thread from the ‘I wanna’ to the ‘In my home’ board’, where it is better suited.

What voltage is the pump?0

I just had a look at this as was toying with the idea of getting one. It says ideal for circulation BUT the pump switches off after 2 hours use. You have to manually switch in back on.
As you'd have to do that several times a day pretty much makes it useless to me. Nice idea though.0 -

We have two ornamental fountains that work off solar power only, you can get them, they are fine when the sun is out but obviously no good without any sun.:D
I think they would be fine if they didn't switch off after 2 hours - that is the limiting factor for me. I'll see if there are others that don't switch off.0 -
If you are DIYing I would stick to a low voltage pump and cable. Stick it in an armoured pipe and either bury it or fix it to the fence. Must be connected to an RCD .Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0

The voltage will be the standard 240volt, as per the 'mains' its plugged into, the variable will be the wattage - depending on how powerful it is - as per the size of the pond, or what it is powering fountain, or filter and waterfall.
Mine, goes from the pond to a 'powersafe' junction box on the wall, and from there to the garage which has its own RCD.I used to work for Tesco - now retired - speciality Clubcard0
