Complain upheld but offer of £1!

Hello and thank you in advance for any help you are able to offer. My complaint for mis-selling of a Principles Card in 1989 was upheld by Santander, but an offer of £1 has been made as they have no records prior to 23 July 1996. Does anyone have any advice about how I should proceed? Do I refer to FOS? I doubt I can obtain evidence from Nat West as I do recall payments were made by DD. I also recall I took out a loan in 1996 from M & S to repay this credit card, but I doubt that would be of any use. Advice needed - thank you.

Same happened with my complaint to Santander about a Debenhams card. FOS advised me to complain to the business providing the policy (Genworth). I did and they gave a similar response (missing records of PPI premiums), but this gave me access to FOS as they have some jurisdiction over the underwriter. My advice would be to try this route.0 -
Do I refer to FOS?
Do you have evidence of payment of PPI?I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -
Hell - Santander have accepted the claim as genuine and made an offer of £1. This is based on the amount of ppi being paid as at July 1996, but doesn't take into account previous amounts paid (I obtained a bank loan to pay off the debt in 1996) and they say they have no previous record. I plan on making an SAR request to Santander and to try to obtain evidence of payment from Nat West,0

If you have evidence of what was paid previously then supply it to them. If you dont and they dont then you are largely stuffed.

Yes, I've heard of a few offers of this amount in the past couple of years re historic store card re-claims.
A guy in the local paper was offered 63p by RBS re a Select store card from around 2000. [This was the level of PPI paid on his initial purchase which was attached to the Credit Agreement all those years ago]
From memory, after referring it to the FOS, he was offered £83 by RBS.
The majority would be for 15 years' worth of Interest at 8% pa. I think for the rest where they had no records, the FOS said RBS assumed he'd re-paid the minimum each month to guesstimate the PPI of x pence pcm/pa. Oh and he received £20 on top by way of an apology for RBS not considering the matter previously when he sent in his PPI Questionnaire. Please be polite to OPs and remember this is a site for Claimants and Appellants to seek redress against their bank, ex-boss or retailer. If they wanted morality or the view of the IoD or Bank they'd ask them.0
