microsoft word

how do you lock a word document so that it is password protected? can do it on excel but following same procedure on word doesnt seem to work,

    thats what im doing sra but on reopening document doesnt ask for password.

    is there something i need to 'check' that i havent noticed :confused:

    Make sure you click save after alteting the security settings.

    hmmm its ok now actually. seems that if i have a file that is previously saved (ie before today) the password setting doesnt work but if i do it on a new file today its ok??

    should that be the case

    If you want to password protect an existing file i.e. one created and previously saved without a password, open the file, "Save As", Tools, Security Options.

    Should do the trick :)

    You realise that password protecting a file using the office facilities is pretty much useless, you can freely download software that will crack it in minutes.

    If it is important I would suggest using Winrar to zip it up with a password, far more secure.
