Do their switching T&Cs say that you are not eligible if you switch from HSBC?
  • No there is no mention of it, the only time HSBC is mentioned is to state that first direct is member of HSBC group.

Yet another example of why it's just as important to read what the T&Cs DON'T say as it is to read what they DO say.
  • The only reference to not being eligible is "This offer is only available for people who haven't previously held any account with first direct" it does not mention 2nd parties or HSBC specifically.

Maybe just ask them, I'm with first direct now, after switching from Barclays, best thing I ever did

Just had a look myself and I'd imagine you can switch to First Direct from HSBC despite them being the same banking company.

The only thing you'd be unable to do is balance transfer from a HSBC credit card to a First Direct one (or any other card operating under the HSBC Group).
It's not your credit score that counts, it's your credit history. Any replies are my own personal opinion and not a representation of my employer.
  • I believe you will be fine the terms are clear you can't have had an account with FD before. HSBC and even M&S come to that are not mentioned!
