Deleting multiple emails

Options
Wonder if anyone can help solve this annoying problem. On my old laptop I used to be able to highlight and delete lots of emails however got a new laptop and getting into my Virgin email account via Google (can't yet work out how to set up Explorer but not that bothered as I've set it as a favourite) and it only lets me highlight maximum two emails at a time. As it's showing thousands of old emails in my In Box, I'd like to have a good clear out but that'll take me weeks! Any idea how I can highlight dozens at a time and delete? Sorry if I'm not wording it very well, I'm not very computer savvy.

Thanks.

From memory... there's a link to select all emails on the page somewhere near the top
Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.

The problem is I don't want to tick that box because it will delete all on the page and I just want to delete selected emails. I used to be able just to highlight as many as I wanted but when I now use the Control and arrow down it only does a maximum of 2? How odd?

Yes. If you want to delete a selection:

    1. click the first one in the list you want to delete
    2. release the mouse button
    3. move your mouse down to the last one you want to delete
    4. hold the shift key down (usually near the bottom left and right of the keyboard with a big upwards pointing arrow)
    5. click the email
    6. release the mouse button
    7. let go of shift

You should have a selection highlighted in red. When you click the trashcan icon they'll all be deleted.

If you want to be really snazzy you can CTRL-click individual messages to add them to the selection

On the Virgin webmail, click on the first you want to delete, then Shift click on the last and all between are selected.
The emails view expands as you scroll down the list, so you're not limited to just what is visible on the first view.

Thanks Victor2, your advice worked a treat. I can now spend a mindnumbing hour deleting tranches of emails from 2010 onwards :rotfl:
