She has a cesspit not a septic tank
I should perhaps have added "cesspit or .." to the first line of my post; but it is surprisingly common for people to use incorrect descriptive terminology.
Is the OP sure she has a cesspit & not a septic tank?
Is she aware of how either work?
From the OP: "It fills quite quickly" .......... both will fill quickly.

Why on earth should there be a grant available to change from a cesspit to some other type of drainage?
Grants available for things like loft insulation, cavity wall insulation, solar panel funding. So not an unreasonable request.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Licenced waste carriers dispose of the material in an environmentally safe manner and, indeed, it seems very likely that some economic benefit is derived, as there is from other waste.
It would be a different matter if cess pits were overflowing all over the place, injuring people's health, but they're not. They remain as a lifestyle choice for a few, including the OP, who bought their house in recent times knowing that it had one.0 -
When yachting or canalboating with a holding tank (which has to be pumped out when full), many skippers urge crew to SOS (S*** On Shore) whenever possible.
A similar approach could be followed......0
