Changing name by Deed Poll

Hi everyone,
I am in the middle of a divorce and wish to change my name quite soon.
I will need to do this by deed poll as I don't really wish to wait until the divorce is final (he is taking his time!).
Does anyone have any recommendations as to which online company to use?
I have looked into doing it myself but it looks a bit full on. Have also asked a solicitor and they have quoted £150+ VAT
I have a couple of suggestions from a couple of friends who have done it but I'm wondering if anyone here has any recommendations?
Thanks in advance
(I hope this was the right place to post)

You don't need to use a company at all, or wait. You can call yourself whatever you like, whenever you like (so long as you're not doing it with the intention of committing fraud).0

Thank you.
I would like to change it though. I know it's not very money saving but, I want it all done legally (so I can change my passport, bank accounts etc) and, as the divorce seems to be going on for an eternity, it'd be quicker to just get it done.0 -
You can do it legally yourself. You don't need to pay anyone. Search for previous threads on here, there's loads of them.0

Just write to all the companies you deal with saying that from a set date your name will be XXX.0 -
I did it for free, and no issues with changing my passport, driving license etc.
I used the wording on this site (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deed_of_change_of_name) - the "Alternative Wording" just so it sounded a little more official! - and printed it on slightly fancy paper (http://www.staples.co.uk/multi-purpose-paper/cbs/429585.html?promoCode=300300666&Effort_Code=WW&Find_Number=429585)
Got my two oldest friends to sign it, and voila! Three weeks later I also had a new passport, in the new name.0 -
A deed poll is not required to change your name, as stated above.
If children are involved, it may be more complicated.0 -
No need to change it by deed poll, when my ex husband and I separated I immediately reverted back to using my maiden name. As others have said, you just need to let the bank etc know you now wish to be known by the name you want to use.0
-
Are you going back to your own name or changing to something completely different?0
-
If you wish to use your maiden name again then you can. You didn't lose the right to your surname when you married. There is no reason to go through deed poll for that.
Or are you wishing to use a new name?Don't listen to me, I'm no expert!0 -
Do you want a new name?
Or do you want to use you're birth name? You don't need deed poll to use the name you were born with?Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....0
