Block up window

Just had a kitchen designer / builder around to do a kitchen design. As part of that we would probably like to block up a small window ( slit type - quire narrow) which faces on yo our garage wall and does not let in much light.

The window has a York stone sill and a flat bit of stone above it in keeping with the rest of the windows in the property. The house is about 15 years old and I have thought that it may be difficult to get bricks to match and even if you did it may look a really crap job and will be an obvious window block up.

He suggested just changing the glass to frosted glass and insulating and blocking up at the inside so it becomes a false window.

Is this OK do you think or are there any pitfalls from this approach that I have not considered. It seems a neat solution to me.

Thanks...

  • The approach is fine, but be aware that if you ever need to replace the glass it'll be difficult as you'll need to either take out the whole frame or undo the blocking up to remove the glass.

Any good builder/brickie should be able to identify the bricks your house is made from and obtain some. It'll probably always stand out a bit, but it'll fade over time and be less noticeable.

Would it require Building Regs? I'm not sure - just asking..
