she works in the caring proffesion so should have known better, my mum had several brain tumours when she died so lm not even sure really knew what was taking on

Follow it up because it's likely that she's doing this with more than one person.

Exactly what Mojisola said. You may even consider going to the police about this if this "friend" is in a position of trust with others.

If you wrote to them originally, did you give them a deadline to reply by? xxx

Have you had an opportunity to go through all your mom's bank statements etc? It might be worthwhile seeing if there's any pattern etc, or any documentation from these parking fines etc. I know it's no consolation but it might be if it gets something done with the toerag friend. xxx

I wouldn't be surprised, her mother gave her money to buy a car couple of years ago and she told her it was 2 grand more than actually cost and pocketed the difference

Would opening another grave and adding to that headstone to bury ashes be included in funeral costs?

She also said her mum left enough to cover outstanding bills, which this one be one, and an insurance policy

Yes, it's no differrnt to buying a new grave plot and arranging for a headstone (in terms of being a funeral expense) in fact, it may well be cheaper than buying a new plot would have been.

OP, if you have proof that the 'friend' had started to make re-payments, or anything in writing from her conforming that she would do so, then you may be able to pursue her through the Small Claims Court for repayment ofthe balance of the loan.

It may in the first instnace be worth sending a leter to this friend sstating that as Executor of Mum's estate you have a legal obligation to recover all debts owing to mum, and that the amount she owes is £x in relation to the laptop purchased for her a her request, and the interest on the unpaid balance. State that you can accept £x in full settlement of the debt if paid within 14 days or can agree a repayment plan in which case of course the payments will need to cover any ongoing interest which builds up.

She may not pay up, but if she ackowledges that the moeny was a loan not a gift that owuld put you in a stronger position if you do decide to pursue her.
