Making the most of a season ticket purchase

Hi,

In April I will be renewing my rail season ticket that I use for commuting, at a cost of £6644. My wife and I are planning on taking a summer holiday outside the EU (not sure exactly where, but thinking the US) and were hoping to somehow leverage the season ticket purchase, plus subsequent spending like weekly shop, to save some money on the holiday. Cash back cards that I've seen seem to have limits on the initial high % offer that are less than half of my season ticket cost, and from what I can tell the Amios points cards seem to benefit those who will be buying first or business class on flights (something that we probably wont be able to afford to do).

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Well, 1% cashback is the best you can get now. Extra 4% on the first £3500 is a great bonus on its own.

Alternatively you can get a 0% purchases card and make some money as an interest on savings, but this will require jumping through hoops to make more than 5%+1%.
